Understanding the Overdose and Opioid Epidemic
One of Science World’s goals, as we work to achieve our new vision, is to become a community convening hub—a place where people can come together to discuss a diverse range of topics and learn from each other.
On February 28, we held a very candid and relevant community discussion on the opioid epidemic. The sold-out event featured a panel of experts from across the Lower Mainland, who gathered to discuss some of the myths associated with drug addiction and the people it affects. Panelists included Dr Mark Tyndall from the BC Centre for Disease Control, Sergeant Michael Wheeler from the Vancouver Police Department, Sarah Blyth from the Overdose Prevention Society and Erica Thomson, the Peer Coordinator for Fraser Health. The panel was moderated by CEO and host of Roundhouse Radio, Don Shafer.
The conversation addressed many areas of the epidemic, including risks associated with the use of opioids, how to respond to an overdose situation and how laws around opioids are enforced. We would like to thank our partners, and , for working with us to host this informative event.
