Thanks to support from Science World’s Science of Cocktails, and the Government of Canada through the CanCode program, we are thrilled to offer bursaries for underserved schools to support their class field trips in the 2018/19 school year.
Since we began the program in 2017, over 10,000 students have visited Science World at TELUS World of Science.
Who is eligible for a Class Field Trip Bursary?
- BC ministry-funded classes in grades K–12.
- Classes must clearly demonstrate need for financial assistance.
- Classes must describe how learning will be extended beyond the field trip, and how it is connected to school or district goals and/or community resources.
What is the Class Field Trip Bursary for?
Bursaries subsidize 50 to 100% of general admission, and school bus fees (up to $500, unless otherwise identified) for one to two classes per request.
The balance of the fees must be provided by the school.
The school bus portion of the bursary will be confirmed following a conversation about transportation requirements.
Science World class field trip bursaries do not fund overnight trips or the cost of parking (there is no school bus parking available at TELUS World of Science).
The field trip bursary will not be applied to school programs, OMNIMAX® films, and exhibition charges (see below).
For classes visiting between September 2018 and March 31, 2019, we are delighted to introduce the Tech-Up bursary add-on for students in grades 3–12. Schools which select this option will receive the regular bursary, as well as:
- Tech-Up school workshop (subject to availability) for your grade level:
Grades 3–4: Senses and Sensors
Grades 5–6: Ozobot Dance-Off
Grades 7–9: Tinkering with Code
When are bursaries approved?
We recognize the great need for field trip support as the number of applications submitted in the months of September and October 2018 exceeded the estimated number of bursaries we are able to provide for this school year. As of early November, we have approved over 150 bursary requests and are now CLOSING Class Field Trip Bursary applications for the 2018/19 school year.
Any applications that have been submitted this school year and have not yet been approved remain on the wait list. We will ensure to notify successful applicants as early as possible if we are able to release additional funds.
Please check this page in late August 2019.
What do I need to do after my bursary is approved?
Classes awarded a bursary should book their field trip through our website and reserve their transportation. Classes awarded a bursary will be asked to complete an evaluation form during the week following their field trip, and may be asked for additional feedback specific to the bursary.
The balance due and method of payment will be determined and confirmed with the teacher prior to completing the class booking.
